ironychan asked: April tries to encourage the turtles to try new foods.
April was starting to get a little sick of pizza, so she had brought up the subject, as politely as she could, of whether they ever ate anything else.
"Algae." Leo shrugged.
"And worms!" Mikey added.
She was startled into silence, and her face must have shown it.
"Normal turtle diet," Donatello said hesitantly. She flushed, hoping she hadn’t inadvertently insulted them.
"Well… do you like anything else? Noodles? Cereal? Apples… anything?"
"Fresh fruit’s kinda hard to come by in the sewers,” Raphael pointed out.
The night’s conversation moved on to other topics, but it stuck with April. The next day she stopped by the grocery store on the way to the lair, and arrived with a brown paper bag bulging with food.
Raph declared that he did like apples, quite a lot. All of the apples belonged to him, he decreed, and Mikey wrestled with him over a granny smith more for the principle of the thing. Leo turned out to be rather fond of the cherry tomatoes, and munched on them serenely watching his brothers tussle on the floor. Mikey, eventually beaten, laid claim to the tinned pears, drinking the syrup from the can while he watched Raph feed grapes to spike. Donnie sat by April, sharing a jar of peanut butter smeared over crackers.
When the brown bag was finally emptied, the four turtles and human girl sprawled out in the aftermath of the sensory overload, dozing in the contentment of a full belly and good company.
